U.S. Interest in Venezuela Election: Why It Matters

Venezuela election was held recently where surprisingly both side claim to win this election which raised concern from many country especially United state. The question is why the United States has shown so much interest in Venezuelan politics and their election so far. This question is not that simple to answer, but in this news blog, we try to find the answer to this question.

Venezuela is part of South America, and it is located in the same region as many other South American countries, especially Colombia and Mexico.  We all know that the Mexico border is linked to the United States, which has a very crucial geographical position, and then in the same line, there are some other small countries, e.g., Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, etc. Even though all these countries are independent and have sovereignty, somehow they are always under the influence of the United States.

Apart from that, Venezuela is a country that has a lot of resources, e.g., crude oil, as Venezuela is considered one of those countries that have a big oil resource. The more interesting thing is that every ordinary man thinks and hears about oil. The first country that comes to mind is Saudi Arabia, but when we talk about the actual facts, you would not be surprised that Venezuela has more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia.

A country with such huge oil resources can be in the spotlight of many international powers, and when we talk about the US interest in Venezuela’s politics and elections, we cannot ignore the fact that Venezuela has more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia, whether official or unofficial. So if we relate this to the recent election in Venezuela, then we can see that many countries showed concern in this election, especially the United States, which was obvious.

Although Venezuela went through an election process where both Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro and his political opponent claimed victory in this election, the situation is still unclear, and many international players jumped into it and showed their concern for this election due to the fact that they all know that whatever the regime does through the electoral process will have some influence on these big players.

Now it has been seen that some of the key influencers, even Elon Musk, not only show their interest but also show their support for the opposition party through their tweets on X. So things are not that easy and simple to digest when we see the current, on-going situation in Venezuela.

2024 is the year where we had many countries where they had elections, e.g., in Pakistan, in India, in Iran, and in United kingdom, and in the future, we will have elections in the United States as well. We support democratic processes in the world that actually work for the betterment of the people.

So in the same way, we should hope that whoever comes to form a government in Venezuela, the ordinary citizens of Venezuela matter most. Unfortunately, the country is going through a big economic crisis. Even though this country has a lot of oil reserves compared to Saudi Arabia, which we already discussed, the lives of ordinary people living there are still not good. That’s a key point that not only needs attention from Venezuelan political leaders but also further discussion in the future by economic leaders around the world.
