Venezuela’s Election and the U.S. Double Standard

Venezuela’s Election and the U.S. Double Standard

Venezuela recently went through an election process where Nicolás Maduro announced that they won this election while the opposition party claimed that he also won the election. Both sides claim victory, which is considered to be their internal matter as Venezuela is a sovereign state just like other countries in the world. However, the recent interest and responses from our top US officials, as well as their key business influences and others, show that the recent election and its result are not internal matters.

In recent news, US government officials recognized the Venezuelan opposition and declared Eduardo Gonzalex the president’s 2024 election winner. This recognition by the US at this level shows their higher level of interest in the Venezuelan election and its result, which is opposite to the previous stance of some key US State Department officials, e.g., Donald Lu

The government of the United States, we don’t actually go around recognizing, withhold recognization of new governments. That’s not something with due any word around the world.

This happened when he responded to the question asked by Congressman Greg Casar regarding the Pakistani election in February 2024. This response by Donald Lu shows that the US has different standards in terms of its approach to different countries in the world.

If this statement by Donald Lu is true, then this new recognition of Venezuelan opposition leader Eduardo Gonzalex as the presidential election winner by US government officials contradicts the previous statements. In the above statement, it is clearly stated that they don’t go around recognizing new governments in the world, then why has the newly recognized Venezuelan opposition led as the winner of the Venezuelan presidential elections?

This brings more doubt and a double standard for the United States, and it shows that they do change their position according to the requirements and situation, and most importantly, the situation that matches their interests. If the statement of Donald Lu is considered to be true and accurate, then what about this recent statement by a US government official is…!!

Countries like Pakistan and Venezuela don’t have any fair simplification due to the fact that Pakistan is just a country with a big population, but yes, they have a crucial geographical position due to being a neighbor of Iran, Afghanistan, India, and China. On the other side, Venezuela has more importance, not just for the US but also for the whole West, due to the fact that Venezuela has bigger resources than any other country in the world, especially when we talk about oil.

This is why, for the US, it is not easy to ignore the Venezuela election and its results. So that’s why different statements have been made by different government officials and other non-official individuals, but these non-official individuals have a stronghold in the US. At the same time, this shows that they are not interested in the sovereignty of the country, but yes, only when such sovereignty is in the favor of the United States, which is quite an unfortunate thing that needs to be reconsidered and reevaluated.

As we always emphasize, ture democracy should prevail in every country, and it should be supported by the key influential countries, which always defend and support democracy in the world, but this should not be based on pick and choose, which we have already seen in the past and are still going on. There is a need for a genuine democracy in the world that actually works for the betterment of the people.

As lbert Einstein said, What can the schools do to defend democracy? Should they preach a specific political doctrine? I believe they should not. If they are able to teach young people to have a critical mind and a socially oriented attitude, they will have done all that is necessary.

The people of Venezuela have the right to choose their leaders; rather, they should be recognized and chosen by outsiders.
