AI plays a key role in every sector of our lives. It’s made things easy for us and solved many problems with only a few clicks. When we specifically talk about the role of AI in education, it’s both an opportunity and a threat to the education system. It is not that simple to say whether AI is an opportunity or a threat to the education system throughout the world because we all know that the future is linked to AI, and AI will take more relevance in the future in every area of our lives. So to get the answer to this critical question of whether AI is an opportunity or a threat to our education system around the world, it is important to discuss both angles critically and then let the reader form an opinion about whether artificial intelligence (AI) is an opportunity or a threat to the education system.
AI is an Opportunity
Those who consider AI an opportunity argue that AI helps you solve many problems that students face during their studies. It helps them find a quick and more accurate solution and saves a lot of their time, which they use more efficiently to learn more advanced things. This will result in more efficiency and creativity in their study and will let them open their minds and develop a deeper understanding of the relevant topic.
AI is a Threat
While those who think that AI is a threat argue that AI is making things easier for students, where they solve many things with the help of AI without spending time to solve them by themselves, such practices demolish their self-learning.
In the past, when they did not have these advanced technologies, they mainly spent their energy solving problems by themselves, whether the problem was related to IT, medical, physics, math, or any other field of study, etc., but now they find quick solutions without making much effort to solve the problem by themselves, which makes them more dependent and less creative.
Our Critical Analysis
AI is not just an opportunity or threat, and we cannot simply explain this by using these two words. AI is a very broad field, and yes, it allows us to understand critical topics in a much easier way. For example, we can easily ask questions through OpenAI by sitting alone at home and having AI answer our questions, and the answer is not just simple but also brief. While asking the same question, we sometimes feel it is difficult to ask during class or in front of other students, as not all students are open and extroverted, and some have a lack of confidence.
However, we cannot ignore the fact that students use AI to solve their assignments and projects without making any effort, which they have done in the past. They just find the solution and then make some changes to make the writing more humanistic with the help of other AI tools. This kind of approach develops their negative mindset, where they don’t even feel that this is a form of cheating that is not unethical.
The interesting point is that AI gives the same solution to all common users, which can be easily detected with the use of some tools that detect easily that this is an AI-based solution. Many institutes use these advanced tools to find AI-based solutions and writings that students present and submit to their schools, colleges, or universities.
What is Way Forward?
No doubt AI is reality in today world which we have to accept. We have to design a system in our institute where we not just educate the student but also let them to understand that the how to utilize these tools to expand your knowledge and on the basis of this knowledge and the guideline they receive through ai should practically apply by itself and solve problems, assignment and project by their own.
We should educate them the develop their moral and ethical values which allow them to have a fair use of these technology instead of using these tools for their unfair mean e.g. cheating, copy paste etc. This strategy should be implementing not at higher level e.g. Universities but also at lower level e.g. school and colleges.
